Within a few yards of the grave of Squatter Brown appears the last resting place of one of the kings of Newcastle, the father of Mr. C.H Hannell and who for years took an active part in the collective wisdom of the colony, the Legislative Assembly. On the face of the pyramid of stone is the inscription - In affectionate remembrance of James Hannell who died December 31st 1876 aged 63 years. Also, Mary, his beloved wife, who died December 18 1884 aged 65 years. The side of the monument records the fact, - Erected by their children as a tribute of love
