Details: JOHN KENNEDY HOWE was born at Windsor on the 5th of April, 1812, and about the year 1818 his father-John Howe-headed a party and discovered the Hunter River and Patrick Plains, receiving from Governor Macquarie a grant of 700 acres for his services. This he selected where is now the estate of Neotsfield. Shortly after the arrival of Mr. Henry Dangar in this colony, Mr. Howe was ejected from this land, and was compelled to select a property elsewhere. This he did by taking up the Redbourn Bury Estate, where the subject of this sketch assisted him, as also in droving flocks to Patrick Plains. This was the first time that Mr. J. K. Howe had visited the Hunter, and from 1823 to about 1839 he continued to travel between Windsor and the Hunter River, the former place being his home. In 1839 his father removed his residence from Windsor to Morpeth, having acted for many years in Windsor as the local chief constable and coroner. In 1839 Mr. James Howe and our subject settled at Redbourn Bury, Patrick Plains, where the latter gentleman has since continuously resided
