Lovick Tyrrell; William Bush; Dr. Walter Scott; Constable Patrick Phelan; Christopher Eipper, newspaper reporter; Robert Watt Thompson, clerk of the office of the Superintendent of Police at Maitland; William Henry Mullen who had known Smithers for 28 years; George Clift, neighbour.
