Convict Ship Susan - 1837


Eleven male prisoners arrived in Port Jackson from Van Diemen's Land on the Susan on 24 December 1837.

Alexander Berry age 21. Native place Boston (America), labourer. Tried Northampton Q.S. 16 October 1834. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for stealing wearing apparel. Arrived at Hobart per Waterloo in March 1835.

Henry Corrie age 40. Sailor and cook from Bermuda. Tried at Trinidad 20 March 1834. Sentenced to 14 years transportation for Highway Robbery. Arrived in Hobart in the Layton 10 December 1835.

Hamlet age 23. Indoor servant and groom from St. Phillips (Barbados). Tried 18 June 1836. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for housebreaking. Arrived in Hobart on the Sarah 20 March 1837

Richard Howlett age 50. Married with 7 children. Native place Nevis. Sail maker, rigger and cook. Tried at St. Christophers. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for robbing a wreck. Arrived at Hobart per Elphinstone 24 May 1836.

John William Jones age 25. Married with 4 children. Groom, Native place Barbados. Tried 13 December 1836. Sentenced to 10 years transportation for horse stealing. Arrived Hobart per Recovery 8 October 1837.

Louis. Age 25. Native place Dominica. Boatman. Tried 25 August 1835. Sentenced to transportation for life for stealing four boards. Arrived in Hobart in the Lady Nugent 12 November 1836.

John William McIntosh age 21. Native place Barbados. Tried 13 June 1836 at Barbados. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for stealing a watch. Arrived at Hobart Town on the Sarah 29 March 1837

Robert. Age 21. Native place Barbadoes. In and outdoor servant. Sentenced to 14 years transportation for stealing a watch, chain and 10 pounds. Arrived at Hobart by the Sarah 29 March 1837

Abraham Sampson. Age 29. Native place Nevis (West Indies). Seaman. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for piracy in robbing a wreck. Arrived at Hobart by the Sarah 29 March 1837.

Sanders. Age 25. Native place Monterratt. Groom. Tried 10 May 1836 and sentenced to transportation for life for stealing a groom. Arrived Hobart by the Sarah 29 March 1837

John Viere. Age 25. Native place Grenada. Bullock driver and carrier. Sentenced to transportation for life 18 April 1836 for sheep stealing. Arrived Hobart by the Sarah March 29, 1837.
