Atkinson Alfred Patrick Tighe - Slaughter-house proprietor. Born 1827 at sea nr Corfu, Greece, son of Robert, sergeant 17th Regt. Married 14 July 1859 Darlinghurst, Arabella Vine, d. Thomas Grove; 3s.4d. survived him. D. 13 June 1905 Glebe Point, NSW. C. of E. funeral. Probably arr. NSW c. 1830 with father, who by 1840 was Chief Constable at Newcastle and by 1843 owned Union Inn. Ed. Newcastle. Established slaughter-house Ppolice magistrate at Waratah at salary of £325 p.a. 1874-78. JP from 1866, sitting regularly on bench. Read for admission to Bar in late 1860s. Campaigned for James Hannell in elections 1859, 1860. Estate valued at £7,431. Alderman Newcastle 1859-62, 1871-73; mayor 1872-73. MLA for Northumberland 23 Dec. 1862-15 Nov. 1869, 9 Dec. 1882- 7 May 1884. Postmaster-General 29 Sept.-26 Oct. 1868.
