Details: Return of Corporal Punishment inflicted by Sentence of the Bench in the presence of E.A. Slade, Superintendent Hyde Park Barracks. 50 lashes for absconding. This man was never flogged before; he cried out and flinched at the punishment; the skin was lacerated at the 10th lash; the blood appeared at the 25th lash, and ran freely at the 40th lash. Twenty five lashes would have been sufficient punishment. This man was severely punished

Had held Mrs. Garven over the fire until disturbed by a passing dray. Left the dock apparently with the most callous indifference
