The history of coal mining is ever one of accident, and the old churchyard is not wanting in evidence of casualties, which occurred in the earlier years of coal getting. A stone erected 46 years ago relates that - Peter Bailey was accidentally killed at the Glebe Pit, Jan 12, 1856 aged 47. The deceased was the founder of a well known Glebe family, and father of Mr. Peter Bailey of the Postal Department.
