Details: Rev. J. G. Turner was appointed to the circuit in 1859, and in that year the first steps were taken to erect a larger building. In addition to property already mentioned, the Wesleyan Methodists had been granted an acre of land near the present Islington high level bridge, and a church site near the corner of Scott and Hunter Streets (Hart and Firkins shop, 1902). This was exchanged for a block on the Hill in Tyrrell Street.
