'The appointment of S.P.G. Missionary, the Rev. Rogers, to Brisbane Water was made in January 1838. He had just arrived from England and was still only a deacon, but was priested on 24th Feb 1839.

In the same year, The Rev. R. Rogers received and accepted a call to the pastorate. During the pastorate of Mr. Rogers the extension work was carried on, and in February, 1880, the infant class-room was opened. Late in 1880 Mr. Rogers contracted a serious illness from which he did not recover. He had been pastor only for two years, but he had proved himself a worthy successor to his predecessors in the pastorate of Brown street.

Rev Rogers was ordained in 1862 in the United Free Methodist Church and served in Hobart, Ballarat and Williamstown Vic. till 1874 when he transferred to the Congregational church in Wentworth Lane Sydney, then Bathurst and Brown Street, Newcastle to 1880.
