Serious Accident on the Paterson Road. — On Wednesday lust, as tile Rev. Mr. Claughton and Mr. Heylock were returning in a gig from Maitland, an accident of a serious nature occurred to them when within four miles of the Paterson township. It appears that at this place Mr. E. Cory rode up to them on horseback, and whilst Mr. Claughton (who was driving) turned round his head to speak to him, the near wheel of the vehicle passed over a stump, and Mr. Claughton was pitched violently on the ground. Mr. Heylock immediately caught hold of one of the reins, and in attempting to prevent the horse from running away, the near wheel again came in contact with a sapling, when Mr. Heylock was thrown out of the vehicle and sustained severe injuries, some of his ribs being broken, besides bruises about the loins. On the accident being re ported by Mr. Cory, at the Paterson, Mr. Sanders immediately despatched a conveyance, with mattresses, to bring the injured gentlemen home. Dr. Newbury was promptly in attendance, and applied the usual remedies. Mr. Claughton is doing as well as can be expected, but it it feared that Mr. Heylock, who is 74 years of age, will not survive the accident
