Details: ROBERT FERGUSON, Golden Fleece Hotel, was born in Dunblane, Scotland, in September , 1830 , and came to Sydney in 1832, where he was educated in Dr. Lang s school, under James Henry , teacher. He learned the trade of blacksmith , and carried on this business in Parramatta -street, Sydney , for six years on his own account , at the end of which time he removed to Scone and bought into the St. Alban s Hotel. This he kept for three years, and then took the Crown and Anchor Hotel, which he carried on for four years. He leased the Willow Tree Inn, which he retained nearly thirteen years , and in 1884 purchased the Golden Fleece, which he still conducts . This is one of the oldest hotels in the district and the principal one in Scone , having extensive accommodation of all kinds , including twenty rooms and every facility for a first-class family trade . Mr. Ferguson was married in 1854 to the eldest daughter of Samuel Henwood, of Sydney, and has one son and two daughters. He is a member of the Prince of Wales Lodge of Freemasons, 1908. E.C., and of the M.U.O.O.F., the local lodge of which meets at his house. He was one of the founders of the school of arts, and is a patron and supporter of the hospital, a member of the Jockey Club, encourages all athletic sports, and is a genial host and respected citizen.

Details: The death occurred in a private hospital in Sydney yesterday of Dr. Robert Ferguson, who had been practising his profession in Newcastle since the early nineties. A native of Scotland, the late Dr. Ferguson received his early education in Glasgow and obtained his degree at the Edinburgh University. After practising for some years in Scotland, he came, for health reasons to Australia with Mrs. Ferguson. He spent a good deal of time travelling about Australia and eventually settled down in Newcastle nearly 30 years ago. He was then appointed medical officer to the Friendly Societies Association and held that appointment until the association s dispensary was closed. He afterwards went into private practice. He had been ill since November last, His illness at first was apparently not serious but afterwards it took a more complicated aspect, and he passed away quietly yesterday. He was 70 years of age and is survived by his widow. The funeral will take place at Sandgate Cemetery

Details: We regret to record the death of Mr. Robert Ferguson, which took place at his residence, Scone, on the 7th inst., after a lingering illness. The deceased had attained a very ripe age, and was universally esteemed. He was one of the oldest residents of Scone, and always took an active interest in anything tending to advance the interests of the town. In the early days he was proprietor of the Willow Tree Hotel, and later on sold out and purchased, the Golden Fleece Hotel property. He was an honorary member of the Oddfellows order. and a member of the Masonic Lodge, whilst years ago he was a prominent figure in sporting circles, taking an especially keen interest in pedestrianism.
