Details: ROBERT FAULKNER, Grazier, was born in Singleton in 1843, and was educated in the district. His father, who had settled in this district in 1842, and died in 1878, owned the land known as Lairmount, containing 905 acres, on which he built a hotel called the Lairmount Hotel, and bequeathed the property to his two sons, Robert and David. The subject of our sketch owns the original homestead, besides 1500 acres, known as Ethelville, in Ovingham. He deals largely in cattle, owns a number of stock, and is gradually giving up cropping his land, finding it more profitable to graze. He is a typical native : energetic, industrious, and upright, and is greatly respected. Mr. Faulkner is the father of one son, is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and of the Lodge St. Andrews, 502, S.C.

Details: ROBERT FAVELL, Joiner and Builder, who was born, educated, and taught his trade in Peterborough, England, arrived in New Zealand in 1864, and remained in Auckland two years. He removed to Newcastle in 1866, and has since resided in the district. He has completed many contracts for houses and cottages on his own account, and as foreman for Mr. Prosser has assisted in the erection of several of the principal buildings in the city and suburbs. In 1878 Mr. Favell had the misfortune to lose one of his legs through an accident, therefore he has now to limit his contracting operations, but he is known as an excellent staircase maker. Mr. Favell is a prominent member of the S.C. Lodge Harmony 547, and has held the position of I.D. and J.D. ; is a member of the A.O.B., and a married man, but has no family living. He is an efficient violinist and cornet player. About 1872 he was partner in the firm of Favell, Dobie, and Henderson, timber merchants and builders, Hunter street, Newcastle, near the A.A. Co.s Bridge. Mr. Favell has lately removed to Lithgow, and has taken into partnership in connection with a stationary business his nephew, a gentleman thoroughly qualified in the department of a news agency. Mr. Favell is a professor of music and gives instruction in the pianoforte, violin, and cornet, for which his charges are most reasonable. He repairs all descriptions of musical instruments, and is a recognised expert as a tuner, raiser, and regulator of pianos.
