Details: One of the first moto vehicles to come to the coalfields was brought to Cessnock by Dr. R. W. Crooke. The vehicle was a motor buggy and it attracted much attention. It was a great source of news for the local paper in those far off days – about 30 years ago. It often reached its destination, but if the doc was late the waywardness of the motor vehicle served as an excuse, but mostly the excuse was legitimate. Mention of Dr. Crooke recalls that he disposed of his practice to the late Dr. Walker-Smith in 1910. At the same time two new medicos started business in Cessnock in Dr. Alfred Cooley and Dr. Godfrey. The last-mentioned doctor was also established at Kurri Kurri. Dr. Walter Fisher was then firmly established in Cessnock and had the largest practice of the medicos
