Details: SMITH AND ATKINS, Saddlers and Harness makers, John-street.-Robert J. Smith, the representative partner of the firm, was born on the Paterson River in 1859, brought up in the northern districts, and learned his business in Singleton with Mr. Wilson, the previous owner of his present business. Shortly after completing his time, Mr. Smith joined Mr. Atkins, a fellow apprentice, when they bought out their former employer, and now jointly carry on that business as the leading one of its kind in Singleton. They turn out all kinds of farm, station, and carriage harness and saddlery in first-class style, superior in point of suitabilit1 to the local market than the imported article. They employ six hands but are of opinion that with a small protective duty on imported goods they could soon double their staff. Mr. Smith is a member of the M.U.O.O.1i`., and has filled all the chairs in the local lodge ; he is a member of the local volunteer force, is a general supporter of all athletic exercises, and is a married man
