Details: CHARLES ROBERT MIDDLETON, Police Magistrate, Clerk of Petty Sessions, Crown Lands Agent, Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths, Chairman of the Licensing Board, Curator s Agent, and Magistrate to give consent to Marriage of Minors, was born at Bellevue, Paterson River, on 2nd July, 1825, and is the eldest son of the late Rev. George Augustus Middleton, Colonial Chaplain of New South Wales. He was educated at his father s establishment, Phoenix Park, Morpeth, and afterwards devoted his attention to agricultural pursuits in various places in the Hunter district. He always took a very active part in all public matters and was for five years a member of the district Council of Maitland, and for upwards of twenty years was a trustee for various roads in the Paterson and Maitland districts. Our subject was appointed a justice of the peace in 1856 and sat on the Bench at East and West Maitland, Morpeth, and Paterson. He has been actively connected with the Hunter River Agricultural Association from its foundation and has held the position of its vice-president. He was appointed police magistrate in 1875 and is a lay reader of the Church of England at Raymond Terrace. Mr. Middleton was married at Morpeth in 1861 to Helena Maria, daughter of the late John Lett, of Goulburn
