Details: HEWIT BROTHERS, Cutlers and Tinsmiths, Hunter Street, established their business in 1877 ; Mr. James Hewit being manager of the cutlery department, and Mr. Robert Hewit of the other branch. The former gentleman learned his trade in Sydney, under his father, who was the oldest representative of the cutlery business in the colony, having arrived in 1838, just 50 years ago. The firm employ 12 hands, do an extensive business in household ironmongery, and manufacture lines in tinware on the premises. In addition to the shop and factory in Hunter Street, they have a store in King-street, where the bulk goods are placed. They are the only manufacturing firm in the colony to give their sole attention to the making of tinware articles. Mr. James Hewit is a member of the Royal Foresters and I.O.G.T
