Details: JAMES CHEERS, J.P., was born in Sydney in 1813, and educated in the Hunter River district, under the late Rev. G. A. Middleton. On the completion of his studies, he settled in the Macleay, and in 1883 engaged in pastoral pursuits with the late Mr. W. H. Chapman, on the Yarrabandini Station. For a period of twenty years be and Mr. Chapman followed this occupation, carrying on such extensive dealings in cattle, and in " boiling down," as gave full employment to about fifty hands. On the death of his partner in 1857, Mr. Cheers continued in the same line of business until 1880, when he retired from active life, having laboured for a term of forty years in the business to which reference has been made, and in conducting a large shipbuilding yard and a boiling-down establishment. Mr. Cheers was made a magistrate about thirty years ago, and has since filled many other high offices connected with the district. In 1841 he married the daughter of his late partner, Mr. Chapman
