Details: ADAM CHARLTON was born at Goole, Yorkshire, in 1838, and twenty years later came to the colonies, landing in Adelaide, where he resided for two years. He afterwards spent several years travelling through Queensland and Victoria, and finally settled in Newcastle, where he now resides, On coming here first he was employed at his trade of plumber and gasfitter by Mr. Ash for four years, but in 1878 he started in business on his own account, and carried on at several places in the city till 1887, when he opened his present premises at the corner of Brown and King streets. In 1865 he married, and has two sons and three daughters
