Details: GEORGE THOMAS CHAMBERS, Solicitor, was born in 1844 in East Maitland, and received his education at the Collegiate School at Cook s River, Sydney. In 1862 he entered upon articles with his father (the late Mr. Joseph Chambers, Crown prosecutor), and in 1867 was admitted a solicitor of the Supreme Court. Settling in East Maitland, he commenced the practise of his profession, in which he has been very successful. He is a commissioner for affidavits for New South Wales and Queensland, and in 1873 was elected an alderman of the local Municipal Council. For five consecutive years he filled the mayoral chair, and 1883 was appointed a J.P. He is a member of the district Public School Board, president of the Mechanics Institute, and a trustee of the Government Savings Bank. After four years retirement he consented to be nominated, and in 1886 was elected, as an alderman. He has since held the position of mayor of East Maitland, which office he fills with the greatest credit to himself and to the honour of the municipality. Mr. Chambers is married, and has four children living
