Details: Inquest into the death of Sydney Samuel Chambers – Witnesses - Amy Chambers said, I am daughter of Joseph Chambers, residing in Watt-street, Newcastle; the deceased is my brother; he was 29 years of age; I was behind the bar of the Caledonian Hotel the last time I saw him. Also the following witnesses John Richard Taylor, actor engaged at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle; John Ice, engaged at the Theatre Royal Newcastle, attempted to rescue deceased; George Clifton; Joseph Francis Peers, medical practitioner and assistant to Dr. Bowker. The jury found a verdict of Accidental death by drowning and added the following rider - The jury wish to express their high sense of the bravery displayed by the lad Ice, who is not fifteen years of age, in endeavouring at the risk of his own life, to save that of deceased; and request the coroner to bring it under the notice of the Royal Humane Society
