Details: JAMES CAMERON, Hotel Proprietor and Property owner, was born in Argyleshire, Scotland, in 1831, and came to the colony with his parents in 1838. Up to the year 1856 he passed his time in farming, butchering, and gold digging in New South Wales and Victoria, and then settled down in Hamilton, where he has since remained. Having built the hotel he now occupies, and received a license therefor, he opened in 1858 the business which he has since continuously conducted. Besides fulfilling the duties appertaining to his position of host, Mr. Cameron is a large carrying contractor. In 1882 he was elected an alderman of Hamilton and is a member of the G.U.O.O.F. and of the A.O.D. Mr. Cameron has a family of two sons and four daughters, and is a member of the Presbyterian Church
