Details: HERBICA AND CORDIAL FACTORY AND VINEGAR WORKS, Churchstreet, Newcastle, B. Burlinson, proprietor.-This business was established in 1886 by Mr. Burlinson for the purpose of manufacturing bitters and cordials of every description. A large and increasing trade is done with the residents of the immediate and surrounding districts. To his already extensive plant the proprietor intends to add a department for the manufacture of condiments. An idea of the importance of the industry may be gathered from the fact that during the summer months the output is 2,000 bottles daily. The subject of our sketch was born in Durham in 1850, and when twenty-four years of age arrived in South Australia. For two years he filled the position of Marine Engineer under the Government of that colony, and at the expiration of that time removed to Victoria, commencing business as an auctioneer and theatrical agent, in addition to establishing engineering works. Some time afterwards he proceeded to Queensland, became a speculator and mining engineer in Brisbane, and promoted the first steam laundry of that city. Five years later he settled in Newcastle. Mr. Burlinson is an inventor, well known in leading engineering circles. He it was who made the refrigerating roofing paint boiler, of which he is sole proprietor in New South Wales. He is a member of the S.C., 455, Queensland, is married, and the father of three sons and two daughters
