Details: GEORGE BROOMFIELD, Cabinetmaker, Upholsterer, and Furnishing Warehouseman, was born in Essex, England, in 1830, and learned his trade there and in London. In 1854 he came to Sydney, vid Melbourne, visited Maitland and the Rocky River diggings, and returned to Sydney, where he commenced cabinetmaking. He afterwards removed his stock to Maitland, entered into partnership with Mr. W. R. Norman, and commenced a business which they conjointly carried on for thirteen years. Mr. Broomfield, on retiring from the partnership, opened a business in George-street, Singleton, which he has successfully carried on ever since. This is the oldest in its line in the district and is fully equal to the requirements of the community-supplying everything from the kitchen to the drawing-room. Mr. Broomfield is assisted in conducting his business by his son, Mr. George Ed. Broomfield. He has always taken an interest in local public matters and has been for three years an alderman of Singleton. He is the oldest member of the Church of England parochial committee in that parish and was for a long time a member of the hospital committee, and a prominent member of the school-of-arts. He was a director of the building society and other kindred bodies
