Details: GEORGE TILLET BREWER, Railway Steam Saw and Bone Mills, was born at Barnet, England, in 1830. He followed the building trade until 1855, when he started for Australia, landing in Sydney on the 4th July of that year. Proceeding to Maitland, he entered into the employment of Mr. T. Wolstenholm as carpenter and joiner, with whom he remained for three years. He then commenced as a builder on his own behalf, but at the end of five years re joined his former employer, having an interest in the business. After the lapse of a further period of five years he again opened, commencing in a very small way, but by application and skill the business has been increased to its present importance. The plant includes planing, moulding, tongueing, and grooving machines ; a vertical saw frame for breaking logs, two circular saw benches (heavy and light), and bone crushing and grinding mills-all driven by a first-class twenty-five horse-power horizontal engine and boiler. Our subject is one of the most prominent and active members of the I.O.O.F., M.U. in the Hunter River district, having filled every office from that of secretary to that of provincial master, and has also occupied the office of treasurer for the West Maitland lodge for the past twenty-one years, and treasurer of the Hunter River district lodge for six years
