Details: Letter No. 44/ 165. Correspondence by Major Crummer to the Superintendent of Convicts re George Morris and his meritorious conduct in having apprehended John Hicklin alias Kangaroo Jack a notorious cattle stealer who with others effected their escape from the gaol at Newcastle but through the activity of Morris was captured and brought back to the gaol. Hicklin was subsequently tried at the Circuit Court at Maitland an convicted of the offence and sentenced to 10 years transportation. Major Crummer recommended Morris for the indulgence of a ticket of leave
