Details: Not far from the tomb of the late Captain John Bingle, there is a marble headstone which marks the resting place of Stephen Price, second son of Captain John Price R.N. who died at Newcatsle on 4th September 1880 aged 63. Stephen Price was a member of a Tasmanian family and early followed his father, choosing the sea as a profession. As a boy he was engaged on the yacht of the great Arctic explorer, Sir John Franklin, when that heroic sailor was Governor of Tasmania and later entered the Mercantile Marine. Eventually he found his way to NSW and was given command of the old Cyclops then a harbour and River tug, which position he held for many years. His brother John held Government positions in Tasmania and Norfolk Island, being killed at Williamstown in 1857 by a gang of convicts who had revolted. At the time of his death Captain John Price was chief inspector of the penal establishments in Victoria. Stephen Price married a granddaughter of Governor Bligh of Bounty fame. One of his daughters, the wife of Captain Bertram, late of the Navigation dept. resides at Waratah, and a son, Mr. Stephen Price was for many years in the employ of the A.A. Company
