Details: Correspondence from Dr. Pinching - Sir, In reference to your notice of the accident that happened to my little girl I beg leave to say the child was severely if not seriously injured and has been confined to her bed ever since, unable to put her right foot to the ground, from being trodden on by the infuriated animal as he was beaten off by a young gentleman of the name of Petherbridge - who at his own personal risk, and with great manliness and bravery, faced the savage brute and rescued the chld from a terrible and impending death just as the beast was about to gor his prostrate and helpless victim. I should wish very much to record the noble act of this young man in your valuable paper and if you will permit me through the same channel to tender my best and grateful acknowledgments as well as that of the child s mother, to young Mr. Petherbridge for his bravery on that occasion

Details: THOMAS SAMUEL PETHERBRIDGE, Wholesale Wine and Spirit Merchant, and Agent of Tooth and Co., of the Kent Brewery, Sydney, succeeded to his business on the retirement in 1877 of his father, Mr. W. Petherbridge, who had carried on the concern for a period of fifteen years. Previous to this the business had been conducted by Tooth and Co., by whom it was founded forty-five years ago. It is the oldest-established business of its kind in the northern districts, and, since coming into the hands of the Messrs. Petherbridge, has steadily increased its connection with the surrounding neighbourhoods. Mr. T. S. Petherbridge was born in 1859 at Molong, and educated in Newcastle under Mr. Theobold. He settled in 1877 in Maitland, and in 1 880 was married at East Maitland
