Details: Richard Pendlebury died suddenly on Saturday morning, February 7, at the ripe age of 73 years. He had been in the Newcastle district over forty years, and for a long time worked in the A.A. Co.s colliery as a miner. He, in company with his wife, also kept a small store on the Lake-road, where he made money, secured a comfortable property, and had lived in retirement for several years. His death was very sudden. He had just recorded his vote for one of the municipal candidate on Friday afternoon, and was about entering a vehicle to be conveyed home, when he was seized with a paralytic stroke, and was carried into Carrolls hotel, where he lingeredd until 7 oclock on Saturday morning, when he expired. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, and was largely attended.
