Details: WILLIAM PEBERDY, Grazier, was born in 1809 in Leicestershire, England, and came in 1831 with Governor Bourke to New South Wales as a soldier of the 4th Regiment Kings Own, Lions of England. On Governor Bourke proceeding to India, he allowed our subject to retire from the army, and Mr. Peberdy went to Port Macquarie, settling at Rowland s Plains, where for four years he followed pastoral and farming pursuits. At the end of that time he came to the Hunter River and purchased a hotel and station property on the Merriwa-road, where he still follows a pastoral life. He was one of the earliest settlers in the Hunter district, and was at Muswellbrook before there was a house built in that town. Mr. Peberdy s family consists of two sons and three daughters, all married and doing well. His youngest son, Mr. William Peberdy, is a grazier at Rockhampton, Queensland, where he was a candidate for Parliamentary honors at the last general election
