Details: PEARSE BROTHERS, Coachbuilders and Wheelwrights, commenced business in 1885. They had formerly carried on in a similar line in South Australia but owing to a disastrous fire were compelled to remove from that colony. Previous to coming to this city Mr. John Pearce, one of the brothers, made a tour of the world- and the experience gained during that trip satisfied him that there was no better place in which to commence business than Newcastle. The brothers leased an acre of vacant ground in Scott-street, where they built their present extensive factory, in which they employ about thirty hands in the various branches of their business, making high- class work a special feature. One of their specialities is a polo cart, the first of its kind in the colony. They are also the first makers of phaetons and fire reels in the city. The management is equally divided between the brothers, Messrs. John and Herbert Pearce
