Details: JOHN RADCLIFFE PARNELL, The Cedars, was born at Wallabadah Station, near Quirindi, in 1862 ; his father, who was one of the best pigeon shots in England and Australia, having settled in 1840 in Moree, where he owned several stations, and died in 1870. Our subject learned the surveying business under Mr. W. B. Christie of Glen Innes, and after two years came to Curlewis and selected land. He has since largely added to his estate by purchase, till now the partnership with which he is connected-Poole and Parnell Bros.-have about 22,000 acres. Of this 10,000 is freehold, and the remainder leasehold, where they run about 20,000 sheep and a number of horses, and on which is situated the Rugby coal mine, showing workable seams 27ft. thick, to work which it is intended to form a company. Mr. Parnell is also part owner of the Mount Parnell Estate near Quirindi, and a large shareholder in the Centenary Coal and Coke Company. This latter has just been floated, Mr. Parnell having been one of the prospectors. The property is situated near Curlewis
