Details: JOSEPH PALMER, Butcher, was born in West Maitland in 1846, and followed farming until 1864, when he removed to Waratah, where he learned the butchering trade and commenced business on his own account. This he continued in for about five years, and then settled in Lambton. On starting business in this place, lie rented a shop, but after a few years purchased a piece of land and thereon built his present premises which include a butcher s shop, large outhouses, and one of the handsomest dwelling-houses in Lambton. lie has proved an enterprising business man, and does the largest trade in Lambton in his line. Mr. Palmer has been identified with all improvements calculated to advance the interests of the district. He was elected an alderman of Lambton and is now serving his third term in that capacity. He is master of No. 4 District Lodge, L.O.L., which position he has held for four years, and is the possessor of a handsome emblem, presented in recognition of the members esteem. He is D.M. of the G.U.O.O.F., and a member of the I.O.O.F., M.U., and was a leading member of the Church of England, but retired from that body on account of its ritualistic practices. Mr. Palmer is married, and the father of nine children
