First Name: Peter and Moses

Date: 20 December 1828
Place: Chester
Source: The Lancaster Gazette
Details: George Lum, Alexander Harrison, Peter Mottram and Moses Mottram, charged with breaking open on the night of 26th November last, the counting house of Mr. william Lees of Newton and stealing thereout 216 pounds in cash and notes a quantity of wine and spirits and other articles. A singular circumstance, in which the 'biter was bit' is connected with this robbery; one of the fellows, George Lum, who belongs to a notorious gang of thieves, which has long infested Stockport and the neighborhood, on the day after the felony, when the party divided their booty, hid his share of the spoil, 55 pounds, under a bed, in the house where he lodged, in Hyde and the honest landlord, who was watchinig his manoevres, the same night took the whole sum from the place of concealment, whilst Lum was asleep, and went off with it. This was told by the prisoners to the officers who apprehended them; the keeper of the ledging house was traced to Liverpool, but he eluded the vigilance of his pursuer, having, a few hours before their arrival, embarked on board a packet for America
