Ship: 1854
Date: 1888
Place: Newcastle
Source: The Aldine centennial history of New South Wales illustrated / W. Frederic Morrison Morrison, W. Frederic Sydney. The Aldine Publishing Company, 1888
Details: AUGUSTUS FREDERICK MOORE, Cordial Manufacturer, Darby-street, was born in Bedfordshire, England, in 1849, but when five years of age came to Australia with his parents, settling in Maitland, where he resided for nineteen years, and acquired an excellent knowledge of his trade under his father. In 1867 he came to Newcastle, commenced business for himself, and nine years later purchased the site on which he erected his present factory opposite his old works. Here all the most approved modern appliances are used, including two of Hayward Tyler s aerated water machines, fifty-gallon steam vacuum pan, and Barrett s patent and Lamont s patent bottling machines. Starting in business with little or no assistance, Mr. Moore now employs in the summer time forty hands and ten horses. Some time ago he opened a large factory at Wallsend, but sold out in order to devote his whole attention to the city business, to which he has just introduced one of Matthews machines. He is the owner of considerable city property, and has for the last six years been an alderman of Newcastle, having lately been elected for a further period of three years. He is a member of the S.C., Lodge Harmony of Freemasons, and has filled all the chairs in the G.U.O.O.F. He is married, has six children, and the family attend the Congregational Church
