Details: A Melancholy Story - From Stockton, near to Newcastle, comes a painful story. Ten days ago a man named Alfred Miner was residing there with his wife and family of five children. Scarlatina crept into the household, one child was seized with the malady, and then another. The first child died ; and then the mother became a prey to the disease. Another child died, and within twenty-four hours the entire family, with the exception of the father, were stricken down. A third child withered and passed away, and then the mother yielded to the agony of the moment, and also died. Two days after the fourth child was borne to its last resting place, leaving a suffering infant four months old, and the father only, amid the solitude of what was ten days ago a happy home. The father is now laid on a sick bed, dangerously ill. On Sunday last he was spoken of and prayed for during the services of the church to which he belongs. He is spoken of as a hard-working honest man, a good father, and one esteemed by all who know him
