Details: Correspondence from Magistrate Jonathan Warner to the Colonial Secretary.....Sir, I have the honor to state for the information of His Excellency the Governor that I received intelligence on Saturday night last, that four men had robbed Mr. Watsons hut at Tuggerah Beach and took away two guns and a small quantity of ammunition and were then proceeding in a direction to the northward along the sea coast in consequence I ordered my two constables to proceed after them without delay at daylight on Sunday morning and procure assistance from the stockmen and others they might fall in with on the Coast and to follow the footsteps of the robbers until they could apprehend them. ON Sunday morning I was informed by a ticket of leave man who came from the coast (Bungary Norah) near Tuggerah Beach that they had robbed the hut that was occupied by himself and two other men and had taken from the hut (during the mens absence in the bush), his ticket of leave, four blankets, a pit saw and several articles of wearing apparel and a little further to the northward the four men called at Mr. Henderson s dairy, where they entered the hut with their guns and demanded butter and milk and the dairy man s black hat and left that place on Saturday morning proceeding to the north. This morning I received information that the robbers came from Sydney in a boat (about 5 tons burthen). The boat was swamped at the entrance to Brisbane Water and is there now with a hole in her bottom. They told some of the small settlers residing on the eastern side of Brisbane Water that they were sawyers and were going to Williams River to cut cedar; that five men were in the boat, but one was drowned. They said they lost 500lb flour, 4 saws, beef etc. I insert the description of the men ...No.1. (Abraham Maharg) A tall man about 6ft 2in, dressed in a blue jacket fustian trowsers, broad brimmed hat. Stoops a little. About 30 years of age and weather beaten appearance (an Irish man)
