Details: Correspondence from Commandant John Purcell to Governor Macquarie recommending James McGuire for the position of pilot. James McGuire was an old seaman and Purcell thought no man better for the situation. McGuire had six months until his time expired and Purcell recommended his emancipation as he considered him the most honest man in the whole list of prisoners; a sober and always well conducted person
