Details: BERNARD McCOSKER was born on the 16th June, 1840, in Maitland, and six years later removed with his parents to Singleton. Here he resided for thirty-six years, during which period he visited all the early goldfields on speculation. He was present on the Rocky River field when six men were killed in one shaft by its collapse, and saw the Chinese driven from the diggings. Mr. McCosker was assiduous in his prosecutions on the goldfields, and eventually took to farming and grazing, which he continued in until 1884. In this year he settled in Gunnedah. Mr. McCosker at one time discovered seven seams of coal, and these he opened up in 1867. Two measure thirty-six feet, and one seam is now being worked by our subject
