He came to the colony in 1883, visited Wagga Wagga and other parts of the colony in pursuit of his business, and made a trip to the old country in 1884. He returned to New South Wales in 1885, and commenced in the Phoenix Flour-mill, Singleton, as miller and baker, in both of which branches he does a large business, being known and respected among the surrounding community. The mill is one of the oldest industries in the district. It was built about thirty years ago, and was burnt to the ground, but soon re-erected. It is a stone grinding mill with three pairs of stones, sixteen horse-power, and has the usual elevators and silk dressing machinery requisite to turn out a first-class article. Mr. Martin has taken three first prizes at the local show for silk dressed flour, as well as numerous certificates of honorable mention. He gives employment to five men and four horses. Mr. Martin is a member of the A.O.D., and an adherent of the Church of England.
