Details: Fatal Accident - A very melancholy accident attended with fatal consequences, occurred on Tuesday morning on the road to East Maitland, nearly opposite the residence of Mr. Edward Weller. Mr. William Marnane who for many years kept the Rock of Cashel Inn at Morpeth, was driving to West Maitland in a dray drawn by a bay horse, and accompanied by his wife Mary Marnane, his daughter, Mrs. Moffitt and two children. The day was boisterous and just as they had reached the spot indicated above, something caused the horse to shy, some of the bystanders assert that the wind blew the winkers open, the horse bolted and Mr. Marnane was unable to pull him in. Mr. Moffitt, with great presence of mind at once passed the two children out at the back of the dray and they fortunately escaped without being seriously hurt. At this instant the dray overturned, the occupants being violently thrown out and the vehicle came on top of them, some part of it resting on Mrs. Marnane s back. She died at the scene. Mr. Marnane was taken to his residence at Narrowgut where he also later died
