Details: GEORGE MAHER, Butcher, High-street, was born in Ireland in 1841. He was educated in his native country, and subsequently, on his arrival in this colony in 1856, at Maitland. On the completion of his education he was engaged for two years in farming pursuits but was compelled to relinquish this line owing to floods. He next worked as a journeyman butcher until 1873, when he opened the business which at present he conducts. This is one of the largest butchering establishments in the district. consuming on an average fourteen bullocks and seventy sheep per week. Our subject is warden of the Catholic Guild, a member of the National League, and a committeeman of Maitland Hospital. He was married in 1861 and has six children living.
