Details: JAMES MacGREGOR was born in Morvin, Argyleshire, Scotland, in 1823, and engaged travelling for a Glasgow tea firm for some time. He left his native country in 1854, and arrived in Melbourne in the early part of 1855, but came on at once to Sydney. He proceeded to the Hunter and was engaged farming there for five years, when he was appointed manager of the Pine Ridge Station on the Castlereagh, which position he held for three years. He then removed to this district and took charge of the Mount Lindsay and Birren stations for seven years, at the end of which time he started storekeeping, and still carries this on. He has a family of eight children, and his sons have two selections on the Namoi River. Mr. MacGregor was postmaster at Boggabri from 1870 to 1880.
