Details: DAVID LAWRENCE, Miller and Sawmill Proprietor, was born in Scone, New South Wales, was educated there, and learned his trade as miller in Murrurundi. In 1876 he opened and took charge of Mr. Tebbut s mill in Quirindi, and remained there for twenty years. About 1880 he bought a steam threshing machine, and for over three ears worked it through the district. In 1883 he established his present business as miller, a few years later added the sawmilling plant, and has since carried on the joint business. Mr. Lawrence, who is well known and respected through the district as a thoroughly practical business man, finds employment for twelve hands. His flour-mill is a Waterson s (Canadian) patent, and turns out flour equal to the best colonial brands. It has done much good to the district, providing the settlers with a certain market for their grain. Mr. Lawrence supports every movement for public progress, is a member of the school-of-arts committee, was one of the M.U.I.O.O.F., and is a member of the I.O.G.T. and of the Church of England. He was married in 1870 to the daughter of Mr. Trayhurn, of Maitland, and has one son and two daughters
