Details: WILLIAM LASHMORE was born in the year 1831 at Southampton, Hampshire, England, and was indentured to the celebrated Frederick La Croix, of the old Cathedral, city of Winchester, to learn his trade of a confectioner and pastry cook. At the expiration of his apprenticeship he joined the P. and O.S.N. Company, and in the year 1854 came to the colonies in one of that company s ships, the Madras, as chief cook. Ultimately he settled down in Newcastle, where he has, since the year 1863, most successfully carried on his business as a confectioner and pastry cook. He is married, and has two sons and two daughters
