Details: BARDEN AND RIBEE, Saddlers, Harness makers, and Importers, High-street, established their business in 1872. It is one of the largest retail houses in the northern districts, giving constant employment to about eighteen hands. For four years past the firm have not exhibited any work at shows, but previous to that time they were awarded over thirty first prizes for saddlery and various classes of harness work at Maitland and other places. Ever) thing in the saddlery and harness line, from the most simple to the most difficult and delicate work, is manufactured on the premises; the firm having imported the newest and most approved machinery in the trade, including breasing, sewing, rounding, pressing, and teasing machines and other modern improvements. James William Barden was born in Maitland in 1843 and educated in the same town. On leaving school, he learned the trade of saddler and harness maker with the late Henry Rourke, with whom he remained for sixteen years, and then, in 1872, started business with his present partner. Mr. Baden takes great interest in all local matters, is married, has five children living, and is a member of the Wesleyan Church.
