First Name: George
Ship: -
Date: 26 September 1896
Place: Newcastle
Source: Newcastle Morning Herald
Details: This enterprising firm of general grocers and food purveyors, built and opened their commodious stores on the Maitland-road, at the West End in 1890, and in a very short time established a large business connection in the city and mining towns. Their trade increased so rapidly that Ball Bros. soon took their stand among the leading men in a similar line of business. Their vans were seen delivering orders throughout the city and district, or entraining large parcels for transportation as far as Tenterfield on the Northern and Gosford on the Southern Line. To meet increasing demands, more commodious premises were sought after, and a lease of the central shop in the municipal block of buildings in Hunter-street was taken and operations commenced in 1895. There, as in their older shop on the Maitland-road, an extensive business is now being done. Ball Bros. receive regular shipments of Ceylon teas, the quality and price of which have made them leading lines in their establishments. They are continually receiving fresh supplies of New Zealand bacon and hams, cheese, from the most famous South Coast dairies, and other produce from farmers along the Hunter Valley.
