Details: WILLIAM GEORGE BAKER, of Albion, was born in Hastings, Sussex, England, in 1833, and came to Sydney with his parents in 1839, the family settling in Maitland. He was apprenticed to the blacksmithing, but on the outbreak of the gold diggings he spent five years as a miner. After that he returned to his old avocation for eighteen years and was very successful. In 1874 he came to Gunnedah and selected land, holding at present about 6000 acres, principally freehold, on which he grazes 6000 sheep and a few cattle and horses. Mr. Baker has been very successful with merino sheep, having for the last three years obtained a good price for his wethers at the Maitland market. Mr. Baker, till his twenty first year, could neither read nor write, but since then he has educated himself, and now takes great interest in literature
