Details: Henry Wilson was indicted for having, at Warlands Ranges on 19th April, wilfully killed and murdered one Peter Clarke….James Clarke deposed that he was coming across Warlands Range accompanied by John Conroy, Ashton Clarke, Peter Clarke and Samuel Partridge; they were all on horseback and none were armed; when they came on to the top of the range, they saw the prisoner riding very fast, coming from the direction of Murrurundi and another person on horseback riding behind; they were about a hundred yards from witness when he first noticed them; prisoner had a revolver in his hand; prisoner passed witness about fourteen yards, and then turned his horse round and presented a revolver at them, and told them to stop; Peter Clarke, Ashton Clarke, and Conroy then rode off in a gallop and prisoner pursued them; the man who was with the prisoner did not ride after them; prisoner passed Peter and Ashton Clarke, and then fired at the boy Clarke; he then turned his horse and galloped after Peter Clarke, and told him to stand or he would shot him; Peter Clarke then stopped and prisoner rode up to him and told him to dismount; Clarke got off his horse, and also the prisoner, who requested Clarke to pull off his watch and give it to him; Clarke complied…..There was a scuffle when the prisoner fired at Clarke and struck him in the neck; and then fired again and shot Clarke through the breast which was the cause of death. During the scuffle the prisoner was shot through the palm of his hand. He was captured by the other men and secured with stirrup leathers and saddle straps. The jury found the prisoner guilty and recommended Conroy and James Clarke for a reward. The prisoner was about 21 years of age and presented a boyish appearance with a swarthy complexion with sunken eyes and high cheek bones. In reply to the usual question, the prisoner replied – I have nothing whatever to say – His Honor then pronounced a sentence of death, to which the prisoner displayed indifference. He was said to have laughed on his way to the gaol
