Details: Presentation.-A number of the friends of the Rev. John Cleaver, Wesleyan minister, from Dungog, Williams and Allyn Rivers, assembled in the Bandon Grove chapel, on Tuesday, 26th December, and partook of a cup of tea, after which Mr. Cornish, sen., was voted to the chair ; and after a few brief remarks on the occasion of their present meeting, and the improvement in the moral and spiritual welfare of the people within the last few years, he called on Mr. Thos. Trotter to read the address to Mr. Cleaver, and present the testimonial-namely, a purse containing 60 guineas, and a tea service. The rev. gentleman replied, and thanked them for the kindness manifested, and was much affected by the sympathy of the meeting towards him. Three other addresses were delivered to the meeting, and the chairman stated that the best way they could pursue would be for them to unite together, and retain Mr. C. in his present position ; but the rev. gentleman declined to state what course he would pursue. The meeting was concluded by singing and prayer.

Details: To the memory of ROGER CLEGHORN, Who was killed by a fall of coal in the Wallsend Mine on April 21; 1873, - Aged 46. This tablet has been erected by the Messrs. Learmouth, his late employers at Egerton, Victoria, as a tribute to his honesty, truthfulness, and faithful service., Be ye also ready. Cleghorn and his son Robert were working in an eight-yard bord on the day of the accident, when a shot hole from the next bord blew out a portion of the coal pillar in the working place of the Cleghorns. From the evidence given at the Inquest it appears that the miners in the adjoining bord had prepared the shots, but only gave notice that they intended firing one. When warned about the first, the Cleghorns went out of danger, but returned to work after the shot was fired, and had barely recommenced operations when the second charge exploded. A piece of the coal, which was scattered by the explosion., struck Roger Cleghorn on the head, killing him and knocking down the son. Mr. J. Y. Neilson, the colliery manager, who was in the vicinity at the time, also received some slight injury

They saw me looking at them and they walked round Mrs. Henderson s premises, they lent on the fences opposite the barracks watching me. I went away, they then went to the house occupied by a soldier, the property of Watkins. I then got Constable Anthony and went to the house. Three of the prisoners were drunk. They all went out of the back way but one McIntosh, to avoid me. I do not think the prisoners could have got drunk in the house. I think they must have gone there for drunk as they had no other business. It was about seven oclock that this happened. Cleghorn, Wilson and McIntosh were drunk and were sentenced to receive twenty five lashes each
