Details: At the top of the hill near the church gate we find the following very curiously worded inscription on a flat tomb; Hic jacet, body of Marey Annie Eckford, who died 24 October 1826 aged 6 years and 16 days. The verse underneath reads - Parents, sisters, brothers, friends weep, Not o er my poor remains, My soul s flown to realms above, Where all is peace and joy and love; Weep not, but praise the Eternal Lord, Who hath in me fulfilled the Holy Word. Beneath these lines is another inscription to an old Newcastle identity, William Eckford departed this life 1st December 1833 aged 76 years.

Details: Near the south eastern corner of the churchyard, there was a massive tablet beneath which several of the Eckford family were buried. The inscription reads - Mary Annie Eckford, died Oct. 24, 1826 aged 6 and William Eckford died Dec 1 1833 aged 76.
